Head Of Department
- Provide co-ordination, management and supervision of long term and day to day curriculum planning, delivery and operations within the area of delegated authority
- Provide professional leadership to teachers within the area of delegated authority
- Provide framework within which students and staff may function effectively
- Ensure there is a suitable subject assessment programme for all levels or areas
- Ensure relevant goals of the school’s strategic plan are effectively implemented and evaluated
- Provide, through formal and informal interactions, appropriate support to teachers in their professional tasks and in management of student behaviour
- Provide effective communication link between the senior management of the school and the areas of delegated responsibility
- Maintain effective relationships both within the school and community
- Create a budget and monitor spending within the department
- Curriculum planning and delivery
- Ensure schemes, plans are up to date
- Observe and evaluate teachers within the subject field
- Provide appropriate and professional guidance and encouragement
- Participate fully in the school’s performance management system
- Manage curriculum resources
- Ensure students are informed of deadlines and expectations
- Ensure that assessment data is used to inform programme planning
- Follow school policies and guidelines
- Deal in a positive manner when dealing with discipline issues
- Conduct regular department meetings
- Contribute to school review and policy development
- Attend all HOD meetings
- Actively support school policy decisions, strategic targets and plans
- Provide positive role model to school community
- Provide positive feedback
- Develop strong relationship with parents, staff and students
- Any other assigned duties
